Alex Hickey is an arts educator, visual artist, and author who worked extensively within the Newfoundland and Labrador education system. He is an avid historian, researcher, photographer, community activist, and a supporter of heritage preservation and tourism development. Alex has made it a lifelong passion to know the history, people, events, and stories of Fortune Bay.
In recent years, he has focused on creative writing. He has been chronicling community life through photographs and words in order to bring alive some of the nearly forgotten stories of the south coast of Newfoundland.
His blog, All Things St. Jacques, chronicles and tells the stories of St. Jacques, his home community. Alex has published in professional education journals and magazines and edited fiction collections. This is his third book. Misfortune Bay: The Loss of the Albatross was followed by Evening Star: The Final Voyage of the Schooner Hesperia.
