Dave Dawe was born in Bay Roberts
and currently resides there with his wife, Corinne, and two teenage
children, Meagan and Aaron. He is an educator at Holy Redeemer School in
Spaniard’s Bay, teaching elementary and junior high students who say they
enjoy his classes for the stories he relates. This is entirely in line with
his philosophy of teaching his greatest love, history, which is “to tell the
human stories, not just to regurgitate the facts.”
Mr. Dawe’s fascination with history was born when he was a youth, listening
to the war stories of his grandfather, a veteran of World War I, and Mr.
Dawe’s personal hero. There have been other inspirations as well, including
colourful local characters, entertaining writers, and engaging university
professors.
As he gets closer to retirement, Mr. Dawe hopes to spend more time
researching and writing Newfoundland history
