The Bologna Cookbook by Kevin Phillips wins a Gourmand World Cookbook Award!

Flanker Press is pleased to announce that one of its books, The Bologna Cookbook by Kevin Phillips, is the winner in the Canada - English Best Meat Cookbook category of the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards 2015. This win also qualifies The Bologna Cookbook to go on to the “Gourmand Best in the World” competition.

The Bologna Cookbook is Kevin Phillips’s first book, and the first ever all-bologna cookbook, featuring two hundred recipes whose main ingredient is bologna. Kevin’s initial plan was to resurrect and share some of his favourite old-time recipes online. He intended to focus on old, lost recipes, but as the number of bologna recipes increased to well over two hundred, he decided to concentrate entirely on bologna. Kevin quickly realized that bologna is not exclusive to Newfoundland – in fact, this sausage is enjoyed by people from all parts of the country – and he decided to publish his recipes in book form. The Bologna Cookbook outlines easy-to-make recipes for mouth-watering dishes such as Bologna and Eggs with Havarti, Bologna Caesar Wraps, Cheesy Bologna Calzones, Balsamic Peppercorn Bologna Steak, Bologna Stroganoff, and more!

Flanker Press began as a self-publishing venture in St. John’s in 1994 with the release of Garry Cranford’s book, Newfoundland Schooner Norma & Gladys: Her Story of Industry, Mutiny & Triumph. Now located in Paradise, the company has eight full-time employees and has published over two hundred books, including many award winners and bestsellers. Last year Flanker Press celebrated twenty years of publishing quality books in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Gourmand World Cookbook Awards were founded in 1995 by Edouard Cointreau. Every year, they honour the best food and wine books, printed or digital, as well as food television. The winner in each country will compete against winners in the same category in other countries for the Best in the World. The results will be announced on Tuesday June 9, 2015, at the annual awards event taking place in Yantai, China.
