NL READS Celebration of LOLA ( Love Our Local Authors ) Month

The Newfoundland and Labrador Public Libraries, in conjunction with CBC Newfoundland Labrador, will be hosting NLREADS on Wednesday, February 28, at the A.C. Hunter Library ( 125 Allandale Road, St. John's ) from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm.Hosted by Krissy Holmes of the CBC Radio Morning Show, NLREADS has selected four books by Newfoundland Authors with Flanker Press' Garry Collins' The Last Beothuk, going up against Allan Doyle, Joel T. Hynes and Bridget Canning. Advocates for each book have been chosen to encourage the live audience to vote for their book of choice.Tickets for this event are free, however due to limited seating, reservations are advised and can be made by calling the A.C. Flanker Press is a bright spark in the Newfoundland and Labrador publishing scene. As the province’s most active publisher of trade books, the company now averages twenty new titles per year, with a heavy emphasis on regional non-fiction and historical fiction.

The mission of Flanker Press is to provide a quality publishing service to the local and regional writing community and to actively promote its authors and their books in Canada and abroad.

Now located in Paradise, Flanker Press has grown from a part-time venture in 1994 to a business with eight full-time employees. In the fall of 2004, Flanker Press launched a new imprint, Pennywell Books. This imprint includes literary fiction, short stories, young adult fiction, and children’s books.
