Q & A with
Stephen E. Bruneau
1.
If you could live during any time period and in any place, when and where
would you choose?
Things are pretty good right now. I think I’d stay
put—maybe push it ahead by a few weeks to get clear of the fog.
2.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I like
to make things, I enjoy exploring, and I like to experiment.
3.
What kind of music do you listen to?
Guitar
lessons and flute lessons (not voluntary). Random iPod output (also
involuntary).
4.
What is your favourite movie(s)?
Action
adventure type—I’m looking forward to Indiana
Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
5.
What is your favourite food?
International Flavours at the bottom of Signal Hill—Tallot’s Lunch Special
is pure pleasure.
6.
Who is your favourite author(s)?
Mark
Twain, Wayne Johnston, and Patrick McManus.
7.
What was your favourite book(s) when you were a child?
Paddle to the Sea, The Wind in the Willows,
The Hobbit, the Narnia series, and National Geographic.
8.
What was your first piece in print (book, review, or article, etc)?
“A
Future for Our Rivers” National Capital Commission Undergraduate Essay
Contest—my essay ended up being printed and it got me to Ottawa for a week.
9.
What other jobs have you had besides being a writer?
Professor of Engineering at Memorial, Scout Leader, Basketball Coach, Church
Treasurer, and Mini-Backhoe Operator.
10.
Make a question of your own and then answer it.
Why
write? Will you do it again?
I think I had
something to inform the public about, and it wasn’t easily accessible
information until it was written down in a public-friendly way. It was fun
to do and a bit of a thrill knowing that people might actually buy it. Now
that the novelty of publishing is long over, I am still glad to have done
this even though it is no way for me to make a living. I would like to share
my enthusiasm for photography and icebergs in a follow-up picture-orientated
book—more for the coffee table than a field guide. This is a work in
progress, and I am collaborating with Kevin. |
