for the Canadian Military in Afghanistan
Flanker Press is sending cases of
books to Canadian troops based in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Flanker
Press has delivered the books and the gift certificates to the
Family Resource Centre, where the logistics of getting them to
Kandahar will be organized by Danette Chaytor, Deployment Support
Coordinator. "Two copies of every book Flanker Press currently has
in print is included in the collection," says Margo Cranford. "The
books will be kept at Canada House, Kandahar base, and will be
available to all our soldiers. With the high number of men and
women from this province, it makes perfect sense to provide them
with reading material which will entertain them in the off-hours,
providing a much-needed recreational diversion, and no doubt, they
will be sharing these books with soldiers from all across the
country." To help soldiers enjoy their read, Flanker Press is also

Congratulations!
Congratulations to Ed Kavanagh. The judges of the 2006 Newfoundland and Labrador Book Awards - Bruneau Family Children's Literature Award had this to say about Amanda Greenleaf: The Complete Adventures:
In this novel, Ed Kavanagh makes use of a series of intriguing fantasies to convey a universal message. By following our hearts, not our egos, we can connect with the natural harmony of the universe to create everlasting love, friendship and peace. Most significantly, through effortlessly intertwining character, action, mood, symbolism and imagery, he relays this message most convincingly to young children. The sensitive pencil drawings of Janice Udell also complement and supplement this whole process most effectively, making it even more meaningful and appealing to young readers.
As separate entities, the first three parts of this novel have proven to be most popular. Thousands of young school children have read them and/or have seen their stage productions. Unifying these classics in a revised volume and adding a final story to bring the series to a satisfactory close make this work of art nothing short of a masterpiece.
